Die International Plutarch Society hat sich die Förderung der wissenschaftlichen Forschung zu Plutarch und den Austausch zwischen allen an Plutarch interessierten WissenschaftlerInnen zum Ziel gesetzt. Zu diesem Zweck plant die deutsche Sektion am 12. und 13. Oktober ein Arbeitstreffen an der Universität Eichstätt, bei dem aktuelle Forschungsvorhaben in einem Vortrag von ca. 30 Minuten präsentiert und im Plenum diskutiert werden sollen. Als neue Leiterin der deutschen Sektion möchte ich hiermit aufrufen, ForscherInnen aus allen Disziplinen der Altertumswissenschaften, die daran teilnehmen wollen, ein Vortragsthema und ein kurzes Abstract bis zum 31. März 2017 einzureichen. Die Einladung richtet sich insbesondere an NachwuchswissenschaftlerInnen, ihre Promotions- bzw. Habilitationsprojekte in diesem Rahmen vorzustellen. The USA section of the International Plutarch Society announces a panel that will be part of the annual meeting of the Society for Classical Studies, January 4-7, 2018, in Boston. The Art of Biography in Antiquity This panel takes its title and its inspiration from the late Tomas Hägg’s last book (Cambridge 2012), a learned study that surveys the expansive tradition of biographical writing in both Greek and Latin.  Following Professor Hägg’s approach, we aim to explore features of the biographical tradition that cut across linguistic, cultural, generic, and chronological boundaries. To that end, we welcome papers on the development, form, and content of ancient biographical writing, whether or not that writing appears in formal biographies.  We encourage panelists to focus on comparative studies or works of particular authors, as well as papers that deal with the intersection of biography and other genres, such as historiography, rhetoric, poetry, and philosophy.  O...
